Angie King--that’s me.  I look forward to meeting you, if I haven’t already.  Until then, here’s an introduction to my philosophy, my personal background and my professional qualifications:

In the heart of Airlie Gardens, here in Wilmington, NC, stands a mighty, majestic oak tree that has kept watch over Wilmington for more than five hundred years.  The Airlie Oak has welcomed young brides and grooms celebrating marriage, photographers capturing family reunions, Azalea Queens dressed in their finery, and artists spending quiet afternoons sketching and painting her beauty. 

Towering 128 feet high, the large, protective canopy of the Airlie Oak covers a circumference of 104 feet.  A tree's branches can only extend out as far its root system, so that says a lot for how firmly this grand, old oak tree is anchored to this land.  In part, this is what has helped the Airlie Oak weather many storms from Hurricane Hazel in 1954 to Fran and Bertha in 1996.  It has also helped her flourish during kinder, gentler seasons.

My Philosophy: As a fourth generation North Carolinian, my approach to financial planning is inspired by the lessons majestic live oak trees teach us.  Specializing in intergenerational financial advisement, I work to strengthen your portfolio so that it will benefit not only you, but the generations to come.  I believe financial planning should be:

  • deeply rooted in your personal goals and values.
  • anchored by a strong, solid foundation that can weather market fluctuations.
  • shaped with a long-term vision.
  • designed to shelter and protect future generations.
  • nourished and tended by an experienced professional.

Personal Background:

“People write country music about me,” I explain with a wink when people ask what led me to a career in financial planning. 

 

When I was just 23 years old and expecting my first—and only—child, my husband was killed in a car accident.  In the midst of devastating heartbreak, I still had to deal with the all the various things that happen when someone passes away suddenly, including planning a future for me and my child. My husband had a life insurance policy, but I didn’t know anything about investing, so I contacted a financial advisor recommended by a friend.  But, I quickly realized that this advisor did not have my best interests at heart.

 

I vowed to take control of my financial destiny by learning how to invest my own money.  I quickly discovered that not only was I good at it, I loved the world of investing and asset management.  I knew it was my destiny to help others take care of their finances, their families, and their futures.

 

Since then, I’ve done a lot of living.  I’ve seen my own family (and the families of my clients) through illnesses, devastating losses, and joyful celebrations.  And, although at times, my life has felt like a hit straight out of Nashville, it’s those life experiences that have shaped my role as a financial advisor.  I can empathize with what others are going through, and guide them to where they need to be. 

My Professional Background:

Like most experienced financial professionals, you might see lots of designations after my name.  They include:

Prior to joining Capitol Securities Management, I worked for several national and regional firms.  My clients and I moved to Capitol Securities Management to benefit from a corporate culture more aligned with my core values and my desire to always do what’s in the best interest of my clients, not what’s in the best interests of a firm.  Here is what you can expect from me:

A client-first approach:  As a client, you have complete access to me 24/7.  I view my clients as an extension of my own family and I recognize that the need to make important life decisions don’t always occur on weekdays during standard business hours. 

Clear communication:  I’m fluent in finance, which—let’s face it—can be a dense language. While I can speak about market fluctuations and portfolio management with ease, I can also translate these concepts into clear, plain English so that you know exactly what your next step is and why. 

 

Collaborative planning:  Financial planning centers around big issues like hope, love, loss, and life. What could be more important or meaningful than ensuring that your life’s work is protected and that you can provide for your loved ones, even after you’re gone?  We’ll spend a considerable amount of time discussing your short-term, intermediate and long-term goals so we can plan for appropriate solutions together.

 

A family-centric atmosphere: Hard work, honesty, family, trust, and integrity. These are the ideals that matter most to me and to my clients.  I believe in the importance of family—no matter the structure—and I’m committed, not only to you, but to the loved ones in your family tree.  This approach to planning for the future is what builds lasting, intergenerational wealth.
